WHAT WE ARE ABOUT

We are committed to anti-racism, equity, anti-oppression, justice, and inclusion.

At The Peaceful Project, we are aware that the leaders of tomorrow are the youth of today. With our experience, knowledge, expertise and wisdom, we provide opportunities, methods, and tools for individuals to access the brilliance that resides within.

When people feel good about themselves internally, when they have the confidence within to express their brilliance, they will do what is best and create amazing journeys for themselves.

We guide them to find their own inner wisdom and truth and effectively express that in their lives.

The importance of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) has been recognized by many including educators and psychologists. The impact of SEL has also been confirmed by research. All our programs are social-emotional learning experiences.

From enhancing children’s confidence in themselves, increasing their engagement in school, raising test scores and grades, and promoting greater awareness and regulation of their behavior, the short-term impact of SEL has been researched and documented. Research has also shown a long-term impact, noting that children “with greater social-emotional competence are more likely to be ready for college, succeed in their careers, have positive relationships and better mental health, and become engaged citizens”

Research has found that social-emotional learning skills may be “just as important as academic or purely cognitive skills for understanding how people succeed in school, college, and careers. In addition, preliminary evidence suggests persistent gaps in achievement defined by income and racial/ethnic differences.”

"In Session 4 we introduced the kids to “The Peace Table” – helping them work through conflicts peacefully. It was super powerful. The children were mostly wanting to be better friends with each other (heartwarming) or to craving more time with their parents (heartbreaking). Watching them realize they CAN express their feelings and create a deeper connection by peacefully communicating. Brilliant on so many levels. I am blessed to do this work."

OUR FOUNDATIONAL CONCEPTS

We celebrate difference – We model Ubuntu – I am because you are -  in a simple and successful manner that encourages individuals to share more about themselves in community as well as how their challenges may affect them. This model creates an environment where each person inside of the collective are able to see that when we are challenged, when it comes to how we feel, and how we are each uniquely brilliant, we are far more alike than we are different.

We understand feelings – We believe that feelings are valuable and allow us to be more open and vulnerable with ourselves and with each other. In our programs, we help everyone acknowledge their feelings and assist them in moving through them so that they can better express what they want and/or need.

We look within – Our programs model and teach a practical and applicable tool that provides a method for participants to access their innate goodness even in the most challenging circumstances. This builds self-esteem and self-confidence.

We provide everyone with the practical tools to be productive during conflict in a peaceful and respectful way. We practice these tools both individually and as a group so that we can all experience peer mediation, as well as liberatory communication.
